Theresa didn't give herself over to slapping babies, Hitler didn't give himself over to building orphanages. Their circumstance didn't lend itself to that
It doesn't matter the example. People do what they do because they were born to a certain set of parents, and conditioned by a lifetime of circumstance since the second the sperm and egg met(edited)

All the while having an undeniable feeling of free will
I feel like you're confusing "you can't change the past so stop worrying about it" with "you can't change the present so stop worrying about choice and just be"
And again, really it's more than just "genes and conditioning". It's the laws of physics, the way the atoms in the brains moved, the way the sun is spinning around the Milky Way
I feel like you're confusing "you can't change the past so stop worrying about it" with "you can't change the present so stop worrying about choice and just be"
Yeah it can sound that way, but I'm absolutely not saying that second thing
This whole "feeling of free will" idea comes across as a globe earther trying to convince a flat earther that their version of reality is the right version.(edited)
If you think that someone could have acted differently in the past, you are denying that the universe unfolds causally based on the laws of physics. You're saying he could have made the atoms in his brain move differently
you dont have to do anything, trying to excuse someones actions by saying they had no other option when they clearly did is a foolish and i think somewhat disgusting way to excuse shitty behavior
Yet at some point the child hitter will have known that hitting children is socially unacceptable and will have made a choice that he enjoyed it enough to continue or to start doing it.
In following his own motives he has brought what others may consider to be evil into being. Even if that person had no other option for their own happiness and therefore didn't consider their harmful action to be evil. They will have still invited evil to come into being by the very act of harming another.
There's nothing I can say that's technically wrong about it, it's just, it's too simple
Just wanted to say, this is not intending to be a theoretical description that is 100 % correct, saying that "life is like this, you better believe it." All it is is a set of pointers that's proved to be useful for dissolving attitudinal unhappiness
There is a such thing as overanalyzing a subject. I am continually impressed at shake/Marissa for finding new ways to spin the same message over and over again.
If you're determined to recognize why you suffer, you will stop suffering

The reason suffering can end is because it's based on a misperception, and this misperception dissolves if and when life delivers new conditioning that dissolves it

There will still be physical and emotional pain, you may still get terminal cancer
